In Memory of our Beloved Members

Dixie Helms

Picture
We are heartbroken to share that our dear friend and longtime member, Dixie Helms, was taken off life support early the morning of June 4, 2025 and passed away a few hours later.
We had interviewed Dixie a couple months prior to her death and asked her about herself and the Women's club.   In 1977, Dixie had a daughter and had a full-time job. She joined the Farmwood Women’s Club to meet people in the neighborhood. They met at the Truist building. She remembers making sandwiches for the Tour of Homes & Gardens. She loved the comradery of friends and doing crafts. They made crafts to sell at auctions. Ernest Perry was the auctioneer. They raised money for a scholarship given to an Independence High School student. Every month they had a dinner / lunch and a personal enrichment event, like going to rose gardens or museums.   She will be missed!

Carol Raffe

On March 5, 2025, family and friends gathered to honor and celebrate Carol. She was a great friend to all and we will miss her. Carol Carson and Carol Raffe met 3 years prior at a planning meeting for the fall team. They laughed about having the same first name-and soon found out that both of them had birthdays in October and only a day apart! They clicked! They enjoyed attending club meetings and activities together.  They also enjoyed eating many meals at one of their favorite restaurants, Vintner’s - and then shopping together. Whether it was shopping at a store or a yard sale, they were in search of a deal!   She was an asset to the club and will be missed. Her family plans to donate to our scholarship fund. She would love that, and it would honor her memory.

Andree West

Picture
On Thursday, January 23, 2025, the Mint Hill Women’s Club lost an integral part of our group with the passing of Andree West.  Andree was a 10-
year member of MHWC, most recently holding the position of President.   However, Andree had served in various positions during her tenure,
sometimes in dual roles to ensure the continuity of the club.  Andree fiercely advocated for our club throughout Mint Hill, and with the Chamber of Commerce, which increased local interest and awareness in our club and its mission. With Andree’s leadership and fundraising efforts, the club increased annual proceeds from $8K to $28K, with 100% of net profits going back to our local Mint Hill community. She was instrumental in keeping the club going during the COVID-19 pandemic.  With over 120 active members, the MHWC is larger than ever, thanks to Andree.
Andree will be deeply missed. Her dedication and contribution to the club, and its success, are second to none. She was a friend to many and her absence leaves a big hole in our hearts. Rest in peace, Andree. Our community is forever changed because of you. We are committed to continuing your vision to serve our neighbors.

We Would Love to Have You Visit Soon!
